This year, from 12th to 21st March, Cinéma du Réel is offering a new dematerialised festival experience on CANALRÉEL, with films, debates and encounters every day, live and simultaneously.
The line-up includes a competition of French and international films, the complete filmography of director Pierre Creton, and the “Cinéaste en son jardin” programme (Filmmakers in their Gardens), which, in view of this retrospective, focuses on directors who have chosen Nature as a place to live and film. The Front(s) Populaire(s) section is back this year, with “What Are Citizens For?” as its theme. The spoken festival (giving the floor to those working in the profession) will explore the relationship between literature and documentary filmmaking. What’s more, there’ll be special screenings of previews, rare films and previously unreleased movies, and the professional platform Paris DOC. Find out more here!
Mirroring the latest edition of this major documentary event in France, we’re giving you a chance to watch films from previous editions including the winner of the 2020 Tënk Award - Cinema du Réel (This Means More), three films from Pierre Creton and recent movies selected in 2021 (from 29th March)!
Set up in 2008, the Festival of Emerging Documentaries (FIDÉ) is an event that presents a rich line-up of documentary films made in universities, schools and workshops along with self-produced first movies from all over the world. The festival also hosts concerts, exhibitions and artistic encounters in a space for reflection that’s open to everyone. The FIDÉ team, made up of film professionals and students, aims to offer greater outreach to these works that sometimes struggle to break into conventional circuits. The 12th edition, devoted to sound documentaries, was supposed to be held in April 2020 but had to be cancelled because of Covid restrictions. It was going to present 26 films including 10 sound documentaries. Taking a creative break in 2021, the FIDÉ is preparing for its 13th edition in 2022.
Every month, we meet up with a new partner festival. With a few films either from the previous edition or from the festival currently underway, we share the originality of festivals’ editorial lines to tell us something about the world today and showcase the vibrancy of contemporary cinematographic creation.
